In Va these are the "legal" percentages by vehicle type.

1. Coupes/Sedans- 35% on the side windows & back windshield.

2. Suvs- 35% Front 2 windows & ANY % on the back side windows and back windshield.

3. Trucks/Pickup Trucks/Vans- 35% Front 2 windows & ANY % on the back side windows and back windshield.

4. Front windshield for ANY vehicle- Full front windshield can't be darker than 70%. Sun strips must not pass the "AS1" line or further than 5 inches.

From my years of tinting 97% of inspection shops do not care about the side windows & back windshield being tinted.

The front windshield is different. Yes they will fail you for not complying to the front windshield laws (Windshield legal limits mentioned in "window tint").

Anything Front windshield related I recommend having an inspection 6+ months out.

As of 2021 VA police can't pull you over just for tint since it's a secondary offense. Now if you're caught speeding or something along those lines then VA cops can add on the window tint. But if you're pulled over solely for window tint then it will most likely get dismissed!
